Moving stock between bins with the Item Reclass. Journal in Business Central

Stock that sits in the receiving bin in Business Central is stock pickers can’t find. When you carry it to its home bin, the Item Reclassification Journal moves it in BC too: same item, same location, a new bin.

The example

The steps below use a sample distributor, Lone Star Industrial Supply. Your customers, items and numbers will differ; the page and the fields won’t.

This morning's delivery of 120 GLV-CUT-L (Cut-resistant glove A4, large (pair)) was received into bin RECV, the receiving dock, at Houston Branch (HOU). You've carried them to their home bin, H-A-02.

Move them in BC too, so the dock shows empty and a picker is sent to the right shelf.

Step by step in Item Reclass. Journals

1.
Search for Item Reclassification Journals with the magnifying glass at the top, and open it.
2.
Type GLV-CUT-L in Item No. and press Tab.
3.
Set Location Code to HOU.
4.
Set Bin Code to RECV, where it is now.
5.
Set New Bin Code to H-A-02.
6.
Type 120 in Quantity.
7.
Choose Post, then Yes.

Mistakes that cost money

Stock in the wrong bin
The system says it is in one bin and it is sitting in another. Pickers come back empty-handed, orders ship short and the count is wrong until someone finds it.
